EHS ComplianceThe Urban Development Department, Govt. of Maharashtra on October 31, 2025, issued a policy to promote a circular economy through the treatment and reuse of wastewater in urban areas, 2025.

The following has been stated namely: -

• The Government has approved a new statewide policy aimed at treating urban sewage and wastewater and promoting its reuse to bolster the circular economy, reduce demand for freshwater, and ease environmental pressure.

• It designates the Urban Development Department as the nodal agency, identifies priority applications such as industrial cooling, municipal use and data-centres, and encourages public-private partnership (PPP)/Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) modes for project implementation.

• The policy mandates that in cities under the “Amrut” scheme, treated wastewater-reuse projects will be fast-tracked with central/state assistance, and a state-level Water Resource Recovery Cell (WRRC) and oversight mechanism (“Sukanu Sakramati”) will monitor project approvals, quality compliance and stakeholder coordination.
